Vung Tau is put on the Xiangqi map

We are glad taking the opportunity to quote a news item from the website of the Asian Xiangqi Federation. As we all know AXF has done tremendous effort in promoting and popularizing the game in Asia and around the world.

14th Asian Xiangqi Championships
2-8 November 2006, Vung Tau

The Vietnam Xiangqi Association is hosting the 14th Asian Xiangqi Championships. Vung Tau, the southern resort town is again chosen as the venue for this biennial competition of the AXF. The best Xiangqi players from 14 members countries (Myanmar is the only absentee) will be contesting in three divisions: Men's Team, Women's Individual and Juniors' Individual. All events will be held at the Palace Hotel, 01 Nguyen Trai, Vung Tau.

Since the inception of the series in 1980, China has been the Champion in the Men's Team division. Will there be a breakthrough this time round? The Xiangqi fans are waiting expectantly. More news about the Championships will be posted here in the coming week.

During the Championships, the AXF will conduct its general members conference and elect its new executive council.
